Meet Joe

Joe_Motil.jpg
My name is Joe Motil and I'm running for the Central Committee in Ward 21.
I'm a 60 year resident of Columbus and I've been involved in community activism and local politics for 30 years while serving on the University Area Commission, Columbus Historic Resources Commission and the Board of Directors of the local environmental group Friends of the Lower Olentangy Watershed (FLOW).

I am one of 11 children and a member of Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 423. I have worked in the commercial construction industry for 36 years. I currently serve as a construction safety manager while maintaining a safe work environment and oversee the livelihoods of hundreds of men and women on multi-million dollar commercial construction projects primarily in Central Ohio.
I am a past candidate for Columbus City Council and previously Democratic endorsed candidate for the Ohio House of Representatives. I am a passionate advocate for a Columbus minimum wage ordinance, historic preservation, smart growth, district at-large city council, additional drug treatment centers. I've also been outspoken on tax abatements.

I'm running to help bring back the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party where wealth and privilege should not be an entitlement to rule. I will support all ideas that will help improve the livelihoods of a struggling middle class and the less fortunate.
